Ending a lease or tenancy in Wisconsin
Wisconsin landlord guide to the 28-day periodic-tenancy rule, shorter rent-paying intervals, end-of-period timing, and fixed-term lease checks.
Periodic tenancies generally require at least 28 days' written notice.
If rent is payable at intervals shorter than one month, the minimum notice is at least the rent-paying period.
A periodic tenancy must terminate at the end of a rental period.
Fixed-term leases require review of expiration and any renewal/nonrenewal clause.
Why this matters
Wisconsin does not use a generic '30-day month-to-month' rule. The timing is tied to the rental period, and §704.19 has its own notice-given rules.
Legal authority: Wis. Stat. § 704.19
